MESQUITE — Mass transit might be coming to Mesquite.

The city is considering the establishment of a park-and-ride bus service next spring to shuttle its residents into the DART light rail network.

Dozens of potential commuters reviewed the idea at the Mesquite Arts Center Tuesday night.

The city wants the buses to run along an eight-mile stretch of Scyene Road, connecting people with DART's new Green Line at the Lawnview Station.

Mesquite residents voted not to join the Dallas Area Rapid Transit system back in 1983 by a magin of just 21 votes. The city says it can't afford to become a member now.

If the buses are successful, the city hopes to replace it with a light rail line at some point in the future that would also provide a connection to DART's network.
