Man hit by train
DALLAS (AP) — Transit officials in Dallas are investigating the death of a man who laid down on the tracks in front of an oncoming train.
The incident happened at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve at the Dyer Street crossing north of Mockingbird Lane. Dallas Area Rapid Transit officials said the operator of the Red Line train spotted the man and applied the emergency brakes, but was unable to stop in time.
Light rail service in the area was halted during the investigation. A bus was used to transport riders who would normally take the train in that area.
This is the first DART rail fatality since March 2007, when a 56-year-old man was struck after lying down on the tracks.
