MESQUITE - Police arrested a man on the Galloway Elementary campus Friday for bringing a handgun to the school.
It is a federal crime to carry a firearm on school property.
While students were outside for play day, an adult saw the gun tucked into the waistband of the man's pants. The adult informed a staff member, who informed the principal.
Police were called to the scene and staff moved the students to their classrooms. Police arrested the man, who was a family friend of a student and doesn't live in Mesquite. The incident was handled quietly as to not alarm students, staff or parents.
Once the man was arrested, the day continued as planned.
