DALLAS -- An American Airlines flight with engine problems had to return to the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Thursday afternoon.

Flight 2278 was headed for Tulsa when it sustained problems just after takeoff, before 2 p.m. The flight had to turn around and land back at DFW.

One passenger tweeted that the engine of the plane was on fire. An e-mail from Lynn Lunsford with the Federal Aviation Administration says the Boeing 757 jet had flames coming from the right engine.

American Airlines is calling it a "maintenance issue." The 183 passengers boarded a different plane just before 5 p.m.
