DALLAS — Former first lady Laura Bush paid tribute to one of her favorite teachers at a ceremony in Dallas on Saturday.
Mrs. Bush was the special guest at Holmes Middle School at 2939 St. Rita Drive, where the library was named in honor of Dr. Harryette Ehrhardt.
Dr. Ehrhardt taught Mrs. Bush while she was a professor at SMU. Ehrhardt is a former Dallas ISD teacher, principal and trustee. She's also a retired state lawmaker.
"When I became a teacher in my first classroom at Longfellow Elementary here in Dallas, I took what I learned from Dr. Ehrhardt to make children's stories come alive for my students," Mrs. Bush said.
Mrs. Bush added that Dr. Ehrhardt contributed to her love of children's literature and inspired her to become a librarian.
