Brandi Fernandez, who is currently an assistant district attorney in Kaufman County, has been named interim district attorney following the murder of her boss, Mike McLelland.
Fernandez worked in the 86th District Court, and will serve for 21 days until Gov. Rick Perry appoints someone to fill out McLelland's unexpired term.
The governor's office is seeking input from county officials about a permanent replacement.
Kaufman County GOP chairman Bill Baker said he has spoken with a "couple of people" who are interested in the job, including one man who is "very" interested.
"I can’t say anything more about who that might be at this time," Baker told WFAA.
He added that Kaufman Republicans will submit the name of a well-qualified individual to Gov. Perry, someone who could be a strong candidate to represent the party in the next election.
