We have a sad update about Jack the Cat — the feline that went missing from an American Airlines flight in August.

Jack has died.

After the organge tabby disappeared at JFK Airport in New York, thousands of supporters took to Facebook, urging the Fort Worth-based airline to do more to find him.

Jack was found October 25, hiding out in the customs room at JFK.  His wounds were so severe and his skin was in such poor condition from malnutrition that vets recommended putting him down on Sunday night.

"We thank everyone who has gone on this journey with us," Jack's owners said on the cat's Facebook page. "We want people to understand the risks that attend putting an animal in cargo, and we hope to spur change in the industry so that no one else ever has to go through this again."
