DALLAS -- There's more to the State Fair than fried food and the Ferris wheel. There are butterflies and hundreds of them.
Come walk off that corn dog at the Texas Discovery Gardens Butterfly House. It is part of the Green Exhibit at the State Fair this year.
Over 300 butterflies will be fluttering and flying around as visitors take a stroll through the organic garden. There are more than 60 different species of butterflies from all over the world to check out.
Butterfly releases will occur twice a day at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Wonder how scientists study and track these fluttering creatures? Join in on the annual monarch tagging demonstrations which will take place at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily.
New this year, the Texas Discovery Gardens Green Exhibit will feature fun and easy ways to incorporate eco-friendly ideas into your own home so you can live more sustainably. Many vendors will be on hand with natural treats, eco-friendly transportation, and more.
"Well, it's just some green, sustainable fun," said Sarah Gardner, Texas Discovery Gardens. "You can learn a lot about organic gardening, composting - easy steps - cleaning products for your home. We've got some great eco-friendly art - some wonderful recycled art installation."
The butterfly house will be open in conjunction with the State Fair from September 30 through October 23.
You can see the butterflies at a discount during State Fair hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Admission is $3.
