Plano is set to host an international skating event with competitors from as far as Japan, Australia, France, Germany and Spain. It's called the "Texas Showdown at the Hoedown."

The three-day event kicks off Friday at Eisenberg's Skatepark in downtown Plano. The Showdown at the Hoedown attracts aggressive inline skaters from around the world to compete for cash prizes. The athletes are judged by their peers, not judges.

The event includes a showdown competition, a lock-in and movie. There will also be a best trick competition, with a $100 gift certificate as the prize.

Spectator tickets are $6 and can be purchased at the door.

Brian Lackey, of Rockwall, is competing for the second straight year. He is convinced the competition is putting Plano on the map for extreme competitive sports.

"I would love for people to come out," he said. "It's the best six bucks you're going to spend this weekend and you'll have a good time. The atmosphere is great."
