DALLAS – North Texans who fly out of Dallas Love Field Airport noticed some major changes Wednesday as soon as they walked in the front entrance.
Airport officials opened up their brand new lobby and security checkpoint inside Terminal 2, and News 8 was there to take a closer look at a key part of Love Field’s renovations.
Travelers will notice multiple sections of the airport that are under construction starting in January. It is all part of the Love Field Modernization Program, which includes construction on nearly every section of the airport and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
The most obvious alteration is Terminal 2, which includes the new Lobby area, Security Checkpoint, and entrance to current Southwest gates. The old lobby, which is located right next to the new one, is closed to begin the next phase of the construction.
The Southwest Airlines ticket counter has not moved, but nearly everything else including kiosks and the Airport information desk have shifted into the new lobby.
North Texans will also notice the construction if they park at Love Field. The West Tunnel, which connects the Terminal 2 Baggage Claim Hall to Parking Garage A, is now closed for roadway construction. Passengers can continue to access Garage A from the Bag Claim Hall by exiting through the Terminal 2 main lobby doors to the ground level walkway.
Love Field officials also told News 8 that travelers should note the East Pedestrian Bridge, which connects to the third level of the garages, will be closed from Friday, January 20 until Monday, January 30.
With all the ongoing construction, North Texans are advised to show up 90 minutes in advance of a flight, to make sure you have enough time to park and get through the new security checkpoint.
