HIGHLAND PARK — A Highland Park Department of Public Safety officer was hurt Sunday evening after being struck by a fleeing suspect's vehicle.

Investigators said it all started with a disturbance call near the Mi Cocina restaurant in Highland Park Village.

The suspect who was causing the disturbance, identified as Christopher Scott Burton, refused to obey commands from an officer and backed up, hitting the officer with the door of his white Dodge pickup truck and damaging a sport utility vehicle.

The unnamed officer suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Witnesses said the suspect fled the shopping center at a high rate of speed.

Burton, 39, was later arrested and charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest, failure to stop and render aid, and making at terroristic threat on a police officer.
