DALLAS — A familiar part of the Dallas skyline has gone dark.

The green outline was turned off at the Bank of America Plaza skyscraper, the city's tallest building.

Electricians are installing new LED lighting on the 72-story tower this week; it's more cost-effective and energy-efficient than the current argon lights.

The building's owner won't say if the tower will return with only its iconic green color and hasn't said when the new lights will be turned on.

Reunion Tower recently changed out the animated lighting system on its "ball" to permit a rainbow of colors.

And the Omni Dallas hotel downtown has a dazzling horizontal LED display outlining each floor that can be programmed to glow in an unlimited lineup of patterns and colors.
