DALLAS - Four businesses in an East Dallas shopping center have been evacuated due to an underground natural gas leak.

Fire crews were called out Friday morning to the site, which is located in the 10600 block of Ferguson Road. The leak is located behind the strip mall.

A meter did not show the gas to be at explosive levels, but a dozen or so people were evacuated as a precaution.¤

"We can hear the water bubbling and smell the gas coming out of the hole," said Captain Greg Harper, Dal las Fire-Rescue. "So, we think the freeze might have had something to do with it."

A crew from Atmos Energy will dig up the line and make repairs.
