GARLAND – Minutes after midnight on Monday, Garland police say Jose Ramon Cruz Jr. approached a group of three men drinking beer in their front yard. He asked if he could buy one and was turned down.

He walked away and came back –– and allegedly shot one of the men dead.

Garland police spokesman Joe Harn said Cruz, 23, is being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $500,000 bond. He’s charged with murder.

Harn said Dinh Ngo, 25, walked toward Cruz the second time he asked the group for a beer. Ngo asked Cruz to leave the property. Harn said this was when Cruz pulled the gun and shot Ngo.

The other two men held down Cruz until police arrived to arrest him. Ngo died at Parkland Hospital hours after he was shot.
