FORT WORTH — Police are trying to find the driver who hit and killed a man as he walked along a street in southeast Fort Worth on Sunday afternoon.
David Pope, 55, died Tuesday from his injuries.
“His neck was completely broken — arms, legs, both broken," said Lee Pope as he described his oldest son's injuries.
On Wednesday, family members gathered at a Fort Worth home and issued a plea for someone to come forward with information in the case.
David Pope was hit Sunday afternoon in the 4700 block of Wichita Street, near a car wash. Police said he had been walking in the northbound lanes.
The driver kept going and hasn't been seen since.
"It's just heartbreaking to know that we've lost our son," Lee Pope said.
As police search for the suspect, this family leans on its faith to move forward.
“Our help cometh from the Lord who makes heaven and earth. And that's all we have now to depend on... the source of our strength," the elder Pope added.
His wife, Charlie Mae Pope, said it will be difficult to move forward. "It will be a long time trying to forget about it, but life still has to go on," she said.
Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact Fort Worth police. Authorities have not released a description of the suspect's vehicle.
