FORT WORTH — The U.S. Department of Education has exonerated the Fort Worth ISD in a discrimination case. It involves the Trimble Tech High School application process.
Last year, a complaint was filed claiming that the process was unfair to African-Americans, males, and special education students.
But investigators say the drop in African-American students simply matches a drop in overall applicants.
Until last year, the application process was handled at individual campuses, but there was community outcry that the process also was taking away all the best students from those schools.
So the district revamped its procedure; applications are now available district-wide and are overseen by a committee of campus and district administrators.
