DALLAS — A former Marine will spend the next 54 months in prison.
A federal judge in Dallas sentenced Michael Campbell on Tuesday after he admitted to lying about war injuries to raise money so he could play golf on the PGA tour.
Campbell, 30, told donors that he was hurt in an an explosion that killed his comrades, saying doctors said golf would help his rehabilitation.
But that explosion never happened.
Campbell must also pay $41,000 in restitution.
He had been facing up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for his deceit.
