DALLAS - The commute was not an easy one for many this morning as flooding led to traffic backup on many roads across North Texas.
High water on Interstate 635 at Hillcrest Road and Park Central Drive had many drivers halted. Westbound lanes on 635 were closed, forcing drivers to exit at Hillcrest and follow a detour back onto the interstate.
In the same area of Interstate 635, the eastbound service road at Preston and Hillcrest roads was shut down for some time due to high waters.
- Other problem areas included the frontage road on Highway 183 between Industrial Boulevard and Murphy Drive that blocked all lanes and the Precinct Line Road off ramp on eastbound Highway 183.
- The off-ramp was temporarily closed at Highway 287 and Rosedale Street due to an accident.
- An accident on eastbound Interstate 30 near Green Oaks Road also led to early-morning traffic problems.
There were also delays at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Airlines were catching up after many planes became stuck on the tarmac Tuesday night due to the storms. D/FW issued a ground stop because of lightning.
As many as 30,000 North Texans were without power at some point during the overnight storms. Lightning strikes knocked out power to thousands across the area.
