DALLAS — A decision to fly the Arizona state flag has caused quite a commotion with some drivers who spotted the flag hanging outside a Dallas flag store on Northwest Highway.

Some took the gesture as a show of support for Arizona's immigration law and policies related to it.

However, Anchor Flag and Pole production manager Todd Lewis said that is not the case at all. He said the store decided to display the flag right after the horrific shooting of Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords last month.

For a short time, Lewis said the flag flew at half-staff in response to President Obama's orders to the nation.

"I suggested to the owner to put the flag up in remembrance of those people that had gone through this terrible shooting in Arizona and the people that died — to remember them," said Lewis.

As Lewis explains on the company’s Web site, the store flew the flag to remind people to remember those who died in the shooting and to pray for those still struggling to recover.

The flag is still flying outside the store for that same reason.

Store employees say they want to set the record straight after seeming a little surprised there was any confusion at all.
