CARROLLTON - A large plume of dark smoke billowed over the site of a three-alarm fire at a Carrollton warehouse late Monday morning.
That fire is now contained and crews are going through the remnants of the warehouse putting out hot spots.
Firefighters battled the blaze, which was reported at about 11:30 a.m. at the International Paper Company located at 2015 Country Club Drive. The building was previously owned by Weyerhaeuser Company.
Large mountains of paper boxes and other cardboard items could be seen ablaze in the back of the warehouse. Crews were working to move the paper products away from the fire source.
Workers from other companies in this industrial section of Carrollton stood outside -- in the shade wherever possible -- to view the activity.
At its peak, smoke from the fire could be seen for miles around. It was classified as a two-alarm blaze in the morning, but afternoon heat caused the fire to be upgraded to three alarms later Monday.
There has been no word yet on any possible injuries or the cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
