KAUFMAN — A pre-dawn fire Saturday damaged a building at the 7th Village Apartments in Kaufman.

Fire Chief Eddie Brown said it took about 20 minutes to knock down the flames in the one-story structure that housed four units.

Brown said an elderly resident was taken to Texas Health Kaufman hospital to be checked out, but added that she appeared to be in good spirits.

One of the apartments was burned out; the other three suffered smoke and water damage, Brown said.

The American Red Cross was helping tenants who were displaced.

Firefighters from Kemp, Scurry and Crandall were called in to assist.
