A major change in ready for morning commuters — one that could forever alter the way thousands of motorists get to work every day.

A six-mile stretch of the President George Bush Turnpike opened this weekend in Grand Prairie, linking Interstate 30 with I-20.

While it had been scheduled to be ready on Monday morning, we found drivers using it on Sunday.

This western extension is the final portion of a 40-mile, six-lane tollway connecting Garland, Rowlett and cities around Lake Ray Hubbard, through Collin and Denton counties to Grand Prairie.

The entire project is designed to help relieve congestion along LBJ Freeway and Highway 360.

There are still a few on-ramps on the new portion of the Bush Turnpike that won't be finished until next year.
