GARLAND — Two people in the cab of an 18-wheeler escaped serious injury in a fiery crash on Interstate 30 in Garland on Sunday afternoon.
Officials said the big rig overturned in the eastbound lanes near President George Bush Turnpike and its trailer toppled over a guardrail into another lane of traffic about 15 feet below.
The wreckage then erupted in flames, and thick black smoke could be seen for miles around.
The driver of the truck was not hurt; a passenger was hospitalized with injuries that are not life-threatening.
Traffic in the area was slowed as the wreckage was cleared.
