FLOWER MOUND — A woman was killed and seven other people were injured late Saturday afternoon when two vehicles collided on a rainy highway in Denton County.

Multiple agencies responded to the accident in the 4000 block of U.S. Highway 377 near Cross Timbers Road shortly after 5 o'clock.

Flower Mound police said a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban with six occupants was traveling southbound on 377; a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe was headed north with five on board.

According to preliminary information, the Suburban crossed the center line and collided with the Tahoe.

A passenger in the Tahoe was killed. She was identified as 54-year-old Gayla Smith of Springtown.

Seven other people were taken to area hospitals by the Flower Mound, Argyle and Roanoke fire departments. All are expected to survive.

No names or conditions were released, and the cause of the accident was under investigation.

Police said there is no initial indication that alcohol or speed contributed to the accident.
