DALLAS - Less than a week after it was created, a Facebook page encouraging fans to upload local fight videos vanished from the social media site.
The removal of “Oak Cliff Dallas Texas Fights” came after WFAA reported on the page that lured more than 57,000 likes in about four days. The page featured home videos of local residents fighting without safety gear in parking lots and streets as crowds watched and cheered.
Rene Martinez, a concerned viewer and LULAC District 3 director, alerted WFAA to the page Thursday morning.
"It's become viral and it's become a feeding frenzy of people doing that, and unfortunately, there is some semblance of a culture that feeds to that,” Martinez told WFAA.
District 4 council member Dwaine Caraway called the videos a "criminal matter."
Both Caraway and Martinez reported the page to police before it was removed from Facebook.
