FLOWER MOUND — Natural gas drilling has become big business in North Texas.
Now, the Town of Flower Mound could be the first to pull back. The Town Council heard two hours of statements from citizens and from drilling concerns Thursday night on the city's proposed temporary ban on new or amended permits.
Flower Mound has more than 30 gas wells in operation, but it is looking at a temporary ban on new or amended permits.
There are concerns about safety and health following a News 8 investigation that detailed reports of high levels of the cancer-causing toxin benzene near drilling sites in the Barnett Shale.
Council members went into executive session following the public meeting to discuss the drilling ban.
