GORDONVILLE, Texas -- Grayson County deputies arrested a 24-year-old man for beating and sexually assaulting a 67-year-old woman who they said was "lucky to be alive" after the attack.
The victim suffered a broken nose, a broken jaw, two broken clavicles, and severe bruising, according to a Grayson County Sheriff's Office press release.
At 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, deputies were called to the victim's home in the 100 block of Friar Tuck Lane in Gordonville, Texas in Grayson County. The 67-year-old victim told authorities she was beaten and sexually assaulted by a 24-year-old man she knew by name.
Deputies located the man 45 minutes later at a home about a half-mile away from the victim's. Investigators noticed blood on the man and his clothing, in addition to scratches on his face, body, and hands. The suspect, David Shawn Fothergill, was detained at the scene as investigators got warrants for DNA swabs from Fothergill and his clothing.
The victim was taken to a Plano hospital by air ambulance, and has since been transferred to a Dallas hospital, where she will undergo surgery, according to her family.
Fothergill is being held in the Grayson County Jail on an Aggravated Sexual Assault charge on $750,000 bond. Additional charges may be added at a later date, according to the Sheriff's Office.
