DALLAS – Deion Sanders’ Prime Prep Academy has decided to pull out of organized athletics.
The school’s Board of Directors has voted to withdraw its membership from the University Interscholastic League effective immediately.
The action comes after three months of turbulent relations with the U.I.L. District 11-3A Executive Committee, which determined that all of Prime Prep’s football team and four of its basketball starters had transferred to the charter school for athletic rather than academic reasons in violation of state athletic rules.
According to a statement released earlier today, the Board… “determined it was in the best interest of our students to pursue an independent athletic competition schedule due to the lack of cooperation, support and fair treatment from District 11-3A.”
To do so will allow Prime Prep to “forge an exciting new path for its entire student body aimed at increasing collegiate exposure and scholarship opportunities,” said D.L. Wallace, Prime Prep’s Executive Director.
