HURST — The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office has ruled that a three-year-old Hurst girl died as a result of blunt trauma due to assault.
Anastasia Williams was pronounced dead in the bedroom of an apartment building in the 800 block of Cullum Avenue on Friday afternoon. The medical examiner's report said Anastasia's liver had been lacerated by "blunt trauma to abdomen."
Neighbor Tammy Schofield told News 8 it was around 3:30 p.m. Friday when the scene in this otherwise quiet neighborhood grew frantic and a man ran out of his apartment.
"He knocked on my next door neighbor's door, and that's when I heard the noise," Schofield said. "All he said is, 'My baby is not breathing! My baby is not breathing! Can I use your phone?' And she was like, 'I don't know you, but I will call 911 for you,' and that's what she did."
Hurst police detectives are investigating the homicide, but have released no information about the circumstances of the crime. It was not clear whether any suspects are in custody.
Neighbors we talked to said they had seen Anastasia in the area before, but were not certain whether she lived there or was only visiting.
