Candidates named in Dallas police chief search

DALLAS — Dallas police Chief David Kunkle will retire in a couple of months, and the list of people who want his job continues to grow.

The police department has now released a list of 10 names under consideration:

  • Dallas County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Joseph W. Costa
  • Houston Police Department Assistant Chief George Buenik
  • Former Detroit Deputy Chief Jamie Fields.
  • District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department Captain Brian K. Jordan (formerly ranked as assistant chief)
  • Assistant Director of Witness Security, U.S. Marshals Service Sylvester E. Jones
  • Former Police Commissioner of Mt. Vernon N.Y. and former NYPD Captain Gerald E. Mines
  • Glen Ridge N.J. Police Chief John Magnier
  • Miami Univ. director of special facilities Michael D. Owens
  • Former Battle Ground, Wash. Police Chief James I. McDaniel
  • State of Nevada investigator Donald Teti Sr.

Chief Kunkle has led the Dallas Police Department for more than five years. He will retire this spring.
