DALLAS — A pedestrian was struck and killed after stepping in front of a motorist in Northeast Dallas Saturday evening, police said.

The middle-aged man was apparently trying to cross Northwest Highway between Shady Brook Lane and Skillman Street around 8:45 p.m. when he was hit and dragged under the vehicle.

The police report said the unnamed victim failed to yield the right of way as he stepped into the eastbound lanes of traffic from the median and into the path of the oncoming car.

Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
