DALLAS -- Dark and rainy conditions might be to blame for an officer involved wreck early Monday morning in Southwest Dallas.
The crash happened in the 3600 block of South Walton Walker Boulevard.
Dallas Police told News 8 Officer Tinisha Blanton was pulling onto North Loop 12 from Country Creek Drive around 5 a.m. when a pickup truck hit her squad car from behind.
After the impact, Blanton was pushed onto a nearby embankment, but managed to get her vehicle back on the road.
The truck driver told News 8 he didn't see the officer until it was too late.
"Well I was driving, and I saw somebody flash me inside [the cabin of the truck], and I started looking around in my mirrors, and the next thing I see and feel because I was so close to the police [car], was boom. And I hit it,” Oscar Martinez, the truck driver, explained. “But that was the only thing I saw [before the crash].”
Blanton was taken to Methodist hospital to be checked out, and was released to go home and rest.
Martinez was not injured and he was not cited or arrested.
Police had to shut down the roadway for almost two hours to clear debris.
