DALLAS — A nine-year-old girl was fighting for her life Saturday night after Dallas police said a neighbor's target practice went horribly wrong.
Cristian Manzano, 20, was firing a weapon in a yard in the 400 block of West Yarmouth Street when one of the bullets went through a kitchen window next door, striking the child, police spokesman Lt. Max Geron said.
The girl was taken to Children's Medical Center for treatment. Her name was not released.
Neighbors told News 8 they heard four to five gunshots. They said Manzano lives behind the home where the little girl was hit.
After four men were initially taken in for questioning by police, Manzano was charged with causing serious bodily injury to a child and recklessly discharging a firearm in a city limits.
Manzano is no stranger to police officers; records show he has faced several drug charges and was also cited for unlawful possession of a firearm. He recently appeared before a judge on that charge dating back to November last year.
Manzano was supposed to be on probation starting February 11.
No bond had been set as of 9:50 p.m. Saturday.
