DALLAS — A Dallas police officer shot and paralyzed in the line of duty announced Monday he is retiring from the Dallas Police Department.

Lt. Carlton Marshall was shot two years ago while serving a warrant with the SWAT team.

In November, Marshall and his family were the focus of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Then in October, he went back to work, saying he missed the job he loves.

But, the job turned out to be too demanding and Marshall has decided to leave the force. He joined the department in  April of 1986.
