DALLAS - A new program is helping Dallas Independent School District students start their day on the right foot.
Students at Lenore Kirk Hall Elementary School in Dallas are taking part of "Breakfast in the Classroom".
The idea is that if students start their day with a healthy meal, they can improve their development and academic performance.
Sixth grade teacher Sherri Sullivan said she has noticed a difference already over the past month.
"I think they concentrate better and their creativity is getting better," said Sullivan. "I think they have a tendency to work together better, plus they get action to talk so it’s not so dreadful if they have to really work hard."
DISD is one of five public school districts across the country taking part in the program. It is important because 86 percent of the district's students qualify for free and reduced price meals, but fewer than half actually take advantage.
