DALLAS - In a 3-2, party-line vote, Dallas County Commissioners approved a proposal that will give partners and dependents of county employees access to health care benefits.
The plan will give employees access to a monthly subsidy that goes towards health insurance benefits for both same-sex and opposite-sex partners when employees provide proof that they have lived with their partner for at least six months.
Employees can use that subsidy to purchase a private insurance policy.
County Judge Clay Jenkins and Commissioners John Wiley Price and Elba Garcia voted for the benefits, with Republican Commissioners Mike Cantrell and Maurine Dickey opposing.
