PLANO –– The 2-year-old Plano girl who later died after she was found unconscious in an apartment earlier this month was suffocated.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner issued its ruling Wednesday afternoon.

Grace Lillian Ford was found on Jan. 9 at an apartment in the 1500 block of J Place. She died three days later at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. The medical examiner’s findings don’t change much for investigators, who have suspected the death as a homicide since the beginning.

While no arrests have been made, a police spokesman says there is no risk to the public.

“Our goal is to go out there and get justice for this young girl and her family,” said Ofc. David Tilley. “We are going to take things slowly and methodically. We are going to do things right and are going to make sure that no mistakes are made.”

Tilley is mum on further details. While police investigate, the family grieves. A Facebook page run by Grace’s aunt, Stephanie Beltran, has more than 2,500 members. An online donation website has raised more than $10,000 to pay for funeral expenses.
