DALLAS — Dallas Children's Theater unveiled a new solar energy system on Wednesday.
Sixty panels mounted on the roof of the theater at 5938 Skillman Street will energize the 16 kilowatt system.
The $50,000 panels, donated by Green Mountain Energy, are the first to help power a theater in North Texas. It's expected to save money for the dramatic troupe while helping to save the environment by reducing harmful emissions.
"Twenty-eight thousand pounds of C02, or carbon dixoide, annually; that's 21,000 killowats," explained Green Mountain Energy's Scott Martin. "That's like driving your car to Houston round-trip 127 times."
The solar array is installed just in time for the DCT's latest play, "Miss Nelson is Missing."
