McKINNEY — It took half an hour to get a Department of Public Safety trooper out of a mangled cruiser after an accident east of McKinney Friday night.

The eastbound trooper spotted a westbound traffic violator on U.S. 380 near County Road 330. But as the trooper turned on lights and was making a U-turn, the driver of a pickup truck pulled out of a driveway and allegedly tried to beat the DPS car across the road.

The vehicles collided and the trooper was trapped in the wreckage.

The names and conditions of the trooper and the pickup truck driver were not available on Saturday morning, although investigators said the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
