The Texas Department of Public Safety on Wednesday confirmed it has suspended a trooper who is the target of a lawsuit filed by two women who said they were humiliated after being subjected to a body cavity search in Dallas last July.
DPS spokesman Tom Vinger said Trooper Kelley Halleson is suspended with pay pending the outcome of an investigation.
Halleson is pictured in a dashcam video putting on rubber gloves and then reaching into the pants of two women — Angel and Ashley Dobbs — during a routine traffic stop.
The Dobbs women this week filed a suit against Halleson, the trooper who pulled them over, and DPS director Steven McCraw, alleging that Trooper Halleson's "intrusive" search was conducted without consent on the side of a public roadway.
"I was molested, I was violated, I was humiliated in front of other traffic," Angel Dobbs said. "I had to watch my niece go through the same thing and I could not protect her at that point."
