DALLAS -- The Dallas School District is taking step to make sure kids are staying in school and are safe during the storms that are expected to hit the area again soon.
Last Thursday, five students skipped class and had to be rescued from a swollen creek in Oak Cliff.
Dallas Fire-Rescue crews saved the boys as people watched live on News 8. The fifth child was pulled from the swift water after it carried him and others away earlier in the day.
The boys were students at Atwell Middle School and a district spokesman now says that the school sent letters home to parents, encouraging them to make sure their kids get to school on time and stay in school.
It's a message the district routinely pushes, but recent events gave it renewed urgency.
