DALLAS — A man who broke in to Edward Titche Elementary school early Friday morning was captured after an officer fired one shot at the suspect... and missed.

The Dallas ISD police officer spotted the suspect removing items from the school at 9560 Highfield Drive at around 2 a.m. District spokesman Jon Dahlender said the officer pulled the trigger after the suspect "lunged" at him.

Dallas police spokesman Warren Mitchell said the school security officers were responding to a burglary call when they found the suspect trying to remove items from the campus through some broken windows. He said it was not immediately clear whether the adult suspect was armed.

The man — who had an outstanding warrant — was taken into custody.

Initial reports indicated there might have been a second suspect. "These guys almost always run in pairs," Dahlender said, adding that the school security officers did not see anyone else.
