DALLAS — Dallas Area Rapid Transit is in the midst of its largest light rail expansion ever. Now a new stop could be added to the master plan.

The City of Dallas is building a new hotel next door to the downtown convention center, and officials want DART to put a station there, along with an underground station at City Hall.

DART says it is considering four possible new routes through downtown.

The convention center hotel route would cost an estimated $824 million — much more than a Young Street line at $509 million.

DART says if the city wants the hotel stop, it may have to help pay the bill. A federal grant DART is seeking would only cover part of the cost.

Irving pitched in $60 million when it wanted the new Orange Line to run through Las Colinas.
