GARLAND - Police arrested Bernardo Mondragon-Guzman, 41, on Wednesday for Continuous Sexual Assault of a Child. Investigators said Guzman, a coach for the Garland Soccer Association, raped a 10-year-old boy repeatedly for more than a year.
The child played soccer in the organization, police said, and he might not be the only victim.
"From our investigation, our fear is there are other victims out there," said Ofc. Joe Harn with the Garland Police Department.
Late Thursday, News 8 discovered Guzman is locked up in the Dallas County Jail without bond on this charge, because he is in the United States illegally.
Garland police said the sexual assaults against the 10 year old happened four or five times in the bedroom of Guzman's Garland home and even in a car behind it in the alley.
The two-page affidavit describes the rapes in graphic detail.
"The sexual abuse started in the summer when the victim was 9 years old," the document said. The arrest affidavit also said Guzman "…keeps baby wipes in the glove compartment and naked pictures under the back floor board carpet of the car" and "one time Guzman used his phone to make a video of the sexual act."
"We're going to get to the bottom of it and we're going to do what it takes to make sure it doesn't happen again," said Kimberly Verity the vice president of the Garland Soccer Association.
The long-established soccer organization performs background checks on adults who work with children, police said, but Guzman had a clean record.
"We want to do everything we can to protect our children," Verity added. "That's what we take pride in."
Neighbors said they didn't know the 41-year-old coach, but a family friend told News 8 that Guzman shared a home with his sister and her family.
Police said Guzman befriended his victim's parents and earned enough of their trust to take the boy places alone.
