DALLAS — Police said a child was rescued from a hot car in a Dallas parking lot on Monday afternoon — the hottest day of the year.

A security guard at the Texas Work Force Commission called police after observing the two-year-old boy alone in a car which wasn't running; the windows were partially rolled down.

The child was believed to have been in the vehicle parked in the 2700 block of Stemmons Freeway for about 10 minutes before he was rescued and checked out by Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedics.

The National Weather Service reported the outside temperature at that hour at nearby Dallas Love Field to be 104 degrees.

Police arrested 27-year-old Gloria Arellanomireles of Lancaster on charges of child endangerment with intent to return. Bond was set at $1,500.

"Why would anybody do this? It doesn't make any sense," said one woman who saw what was happening. "I would never leave my kids in the vehicle because that's a risk to them."

The boy in the car and an infant that the Arellano had with her were placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.
