ARLINGTON — A driver struck a home and then fled the scene on foot early Friday morning in Arlington.
The homeowner said she was outside with her dog when she saw the vehicle slam into the bedroom where her children were sleeping at about 2:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Harriett st.
"I didn't know if they were dead or alive," said Katrina McCray, the mother.
The crash left a large gaping hole. However, the children were unharmed.
McCray said her 5-year-old twins and 8-year-old son were sleeping in the room. The truck hit the bed where the 8-year-old boy was sleeping.
"I didn't know if he hit my kids and when I saw a lot of dust, I thought my babies were gone," she said.
McCray and her husband went into the room and found all three children safe.
"When I saw them that broke me," she said of her relief. "... Seeing the bricks, the window, the blinds, the whole room was totally destroyed. I'm just thankful I still have my family."
Police are searching for the driver, who fled on foot.
McCray said police told her containers of alcohol were inside the vehicle.
"Whoever he is he needs to turn himself in," she said.
