DALLAS — DART rail service in downtown Dallas was temporarily halted Wednesday morning after a car attempted to beat a train, according to the transit agency.

The Jaguar sedan was heavily damaged when it clipped the train at North Pearl and Bryan streets near the St. Paul station around 8:15 a.m.

Commuters sat on halted trains as others were stuck at stations while crews worked to remove the vehicle from the tracks.

One person on the train was transported to a nearby hospital. The driver of the car was reported to be okay.

It was the second time in 12 hours that DART was forced to suspend light rail service through downtown Dallas. On Tuesday night, a small fire at the Plaza of the Americas blocked the tracks at the Pearl/Arts District station for several hours.

All four DART light rail lines utilize the same downtown corridor.
