PLANO — Despite a secure lock and even a boot, Boy Scout Troop 1999 in Plano had its trailer stolen.
"You don't have words," said Scoutmaster Lou Williams. "You're like, 'Wait a minute... where is the trailer?'"
Williams said they followed all the correct procedures to protect the trailer.
"They told us to put a boot on, put a chain around, put the hitch lock on," he said. "We thought we had done everything right, but that wasn't sufficient."
And this isn't the troop's first trailer trouble.
Last June, an 18-wheeler rear-ended their trailer, trashing it inside and out. Insurance money still hasn't come through to replace it.
So Troop 1999 worked to earn and fill another another trailer, only to see it disappear.
Scout Gunther Bringer can't believe it. "I wouldn't think that anybody would do such a thing," he said.
"It's a little surprising, because who would steal a trailer?" asked fellow scout Marshall Knox.
The boys understand they have to start from scratch, yet again. But even the youngest of the Scouts have strong thoughts about the people behind this.
"You must be very desperate to do something like that... very desperate probably," Knox said.
A new trailer can easily run $4,000. For now, the boys plan to rent equipment for a scheduled 10-day camping trip.
