DALLAS — A 31-year-old Dallas man was shot while his apartment was being robbed early Thursday morning, police said.

He was taken to Baylor University Medical Center, where he was stable.

Just after 5 a.m., police said, two men entered an apartment in the 5300 block of Monmouth Lane, near Walton Walker Boulevard west of Cockrell Hill.

The occupant wasn't home at the time of the break-in, but a neighbor called him and he returned, according to Senior Cpl. Kevin Janse, a Dallas police spokesman.

When he entered his apartment, he saw the robbers and began to fight with them.

One of them fired several times at the man, hitting him once in the stomach.

The robbers got away.
