AZLE — The Azle Independent School District has extended its district-wide shutdown to Tuesday because of ongoing water issues.
The city has repaired a water main break that forced all classed to be canceled on Monday. But the the Azle ISD says the Tarrant County Health Department has closed all the district's food preparation facilities for Tuesday, and they cannot reopen until water is determined to be drinkable.
"Any non-athletic activities or meetings that were scheduled to happen Monday or Tuesday have been canceled," Azle ISD said in a statement on its Web site. "We will later determine the time that the activities will be rescheduled."
Varsity athletic events on Tuesday night will go forward as scheduled, the district said.
"We are optimistic about the ability to have school on Wednesday," the Web site message said, adding, however, that no determination can be made until Tuesday afternoon at the earliest.
A boil water notice remains in effect for all Azle residents until further notice, and all food establishments in the city must remain closed until the requirement is lifted.
To use tap water, residents are advised to first bring it to a vigorous, rolling boil. Once boiling, continue to boil water for two minutes.
Those still without water service are expected to have it restored by late Monday afternoon at the latest.
Azle is located northwest of Fort Worth.
